Terms of Service

Last updated: March 25, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Energy Scout ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Energy Scout is a free educational tool that provides estimated solar and battery storage savings calculations based on publicly available data from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and other public sources. The Service is intended for informational and educational purposes only.

3. Estimates & Disclaimers

All savings estimates, system costs, payback periods, and financial projections provided by Energy Scout are estimates only and should not be relied upon as guarantees.

  • Actual solar production depends on roof orientation, shading, panel degradation, weather, and other site-specific factors not captured by satellite data
  • System costs are based on MSRP and regional averages — actual installer quotes may vary significantly
  • Incentive programs, tax credits, and rebate amounts change frequently and may not be current
  • ROI comparisons (including S&P 500 projections) use historical averages and are not predictions of future performance
  • Electricity rate projections assume a 2% annual increase, which may not reflect actual utility rate changes

We recommend obtaining multiple quotes from licensed solar installers before making any purchasing decisions.

4. Not Financial or Tax Advice

Nothing on Energy Scout constitutes financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. Information about the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), state incentives, depreciation, or other tax-related topics is provided for educational purposes only. Consult a qualified tax professional before making decisions based on tax credit eligibility.

5. User Data & Consent

By providing your email address, you consent to receiving your requested solar assessment report. If you check the "Connect me with local installers" checkbox, you consent to having your email and zip code shared with solar installation companies for the purpose of receiving a free consultation. You may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting hello@energyscout.org.

See our Privacy Policy for full details on data collection and use.

6. Third-Party Installers

Energy Scout may connect users with third-party solar installation companies. We do not employ, endorse, or guarantee the work of any installer. Any agreement you enter into with an installer is solely between you and that company. Energy Scout is not responsible for the quality, pricing, timeliness, or outcome of any installation.

7. Intellectual Property

The Energy Scout name, logo, website design, and original content are the property of their respective owners. NREL data used in our calculations is publicly available government data. Product names, logos, and brands mentioned (Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge, etc.) are trademarks of their respective owners.

8. Limitation of Liability

Energy Scout is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to financial losses from reliance on our estimates.

9. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted to this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
